Electrified Vehicles Reach One-Quarter of Ecuador’s First-Half Sales

Ecuador’s electrified-vehicle market reached a meaningful share of first-half sales in 2026: one in four vehicles sold was hybrid or electric, according to Primicias’ coverage of the AutoShow Guayaquil 2026. The report also says fully electric-vehicle sales tripled compared with the first half of 2025.

The AutoShow, running from August 11 through August 16 at Guayaquil’s Convention Center, is presenting more than 40 brands and a broader range of technologies than the conventional hybrid-versus-electric distinction suggests.

The market now spans several architectures

The models shown include conventional hybrids, plug-in hybrids, range-extended vehicles, and fully electric vehicles. Prices among the vehicles surveyed by Primicias range from USD 15,990 to USD 61,890.

At the entry end, the Suzuki Dzire Hybrid starts at USD 15,990 and is advertised by the brand with efficiency of up to 93 kilometers per gallon. Suzuki is described as the leading hybrid brand in Ecuador, with the Fronx the best-selling hybrid in the first half.

Kia is displaying hybrid versions of the Sportage, Sorento, and Carnival, while a Seltos hybrid is planned for launch between September and October 2026. Kia’s displayed hybrid versions are reported to have approximate total autonomy of 1,200 kilometers, with an electric component offering between 70 and 100 kilometers.

Kia’s fully electric PV5 is listed from USD 36,000, with up to 412 kilometers of autonomy.

Range-extended and plug-in models add complexity

Dongfeng is showing the 007 and 008, its first range-extended models in Ecuador. The 007 is priced at USD 32,990, with approximately 700 kilometers of range, while the six-passenger 008 is priced at USD 39,990 and has approximately 800 kilometers of range.

BYD is presenting the Ti7, a plug-in hybrid priced at USD 54,990. The brand says the model can travel up to 1,100 kilometers in combined autonomy, including approximately 130 kilometers in fully electric mode.

Geely’s Starray EM-i is priced at USD 28,990, with a claimed combined range of 1,500 kilometers and up to 105 kilometers using only electric energy. The higher end includes Jetour’s F700 at USD 61,890 and the fully electric MG S5 EV from USD 23,990.

What to watch

The market signal is not only the number of new models. Watch whether the first-half share persists after the AutoShow, whether brands convert display interest into deliveries, and whether charging, financing, and after-sales support expand alongside vehicle availability. The source reports sales share and manufacturer claims; it does not provide a national charging-network count or independent verification of every range figure.
