Ecuador-Made Vehicle Sales Reach 7,922 Units In First Half Of 2026

Ecuador Brief||Source: Primicias

Ecuadorian dealerships sold 78,136 vehicles between January and June 2026, a 42.8% increase from the same period of 2025.

China-assembled vehicles remained the dominant supply source, with 44,363 units sold in the first half, representing 57% of the market.

Locally assembled vehicles ranked second by assembly origin. Ecuador-made units reached 7,922 sales, equal to 10.14% of total first-half sales.

Local Assembly Base

Ecuador’s local assembly base is now concentrated in two plants: Aymesa in Quito and Ciauto in Ambato.

The local industry’s position follows the 2024 closure of the General Motors OBB plant in Quito, which had produced Chevrolet vehicles.

Model Mix

The overall first-half ranking was led by the Kia Soluto, followed by the Chevrolet Groove.

The third-ranked model was the Kia Sonet, assembled by Aymesa in Quito. Two other Ecuador-made models also entered the top 10 through June: the Hyundai Creta and the GWM Poer pickup.

What To Watch

The key indicators are whether local assembly can hold share above 10%, whether Aymesa and Ciauto expand model mix, and whether China-assembled supply keeps taking volume through price, financing, and availability advantages.
