Imbabura Targets USD 150,000 In 2026 Tango Mandarin Exports To U.S.
Ecuador is exporting tango mandarins from Imbabura to the United States, with the first of six planned shipments totaling 23,430 kilograms.
Export Plan
In 2026, the planned export volume is 140,550 kilograms, equivalent to USD 150,000.
The first shipment was processed under cold treatment in transit, a phytosanitary procedure used during transport. The export follows certification of the first 2026 shipment by Agrocalidad.
Compliance Requirements
Technicians verified phytosanitary inspection of the fruit, calibration and installation of temperature sensors in the container, detailed cargo monitoring and official security seals.
The process was tied to requirements established by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the United States Department of Agriculture.
What To Watch
Watch completion of the remaining five containers and whether the protocol becomes repeatable for other highland fruit producers. The business signal is small in dollar terms but relevant for diversification of nontraditional agricultural exports.
