Sierra-Coast Logistics Corridor Restricted Through June 28
Traffic on the Balbanera-Pallatanga-Cumandá road is restricted from June 22 to June 28, 2026 while rehabilitation work proceeds across multiple sections of the corridor.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport said circulation will be allowed between 06:00 and 18:00, with one lane operating under alternating traffic every 30 minutes.
Intervention Points
| Sector | Road Section |
|---|---|
| Páramo de Návag | km 10 to km 12 |
| Tepeyac Alto | km 14 to km 20 |
| Juan de Velasco | km 25 to km 29 |
| Trigoloma | km 52 to km 55 |
| Los Santiago | km 75 |
| Soberana | km 92 |
| Cascajal | km 100 |
The corridor is one of the main routes linking Ecuador's central Sierra with the Coast. It carries private vehicles, interprovincial buses and heavy cargo, and supports connectivity between provinces such as Chimborazo and Guayas.
Authorities advised drivers to plan trips in advance, expect wait times during high-demand hours, follow temporary signage and drive preventively through work zones.
What to watch
The business impact depends on whether alternating traffic remains predictable through June 28. Cargo operators, interprovincial transport firms and distributors should monitor official updates, particularly if schedules depend on daytime movement through the controlled sections.
For logistics planning, the relevant variables are wait times, temporary signage compliance, and whether weather or construction delays extend the restriction window beyond the announced schedule.
